In a major breakthrough against cybercrime, Buxar Police have arrested 18 members of an interstate cyber fraud syndicate accused of duping people through fraudulent online gaming and betting applications. The arrests followed a police raid on a rented house near ICICI Bank on PP Road, officials said on Sunday.

Superintendent of Police Shubham Arya stated during a press conference that the operation was based on a specific intelligence input regarding a large-scale financial scam. According to police, the group created fake gaming apps and circulated them through platforms like Telegram. Victims were lured into depositing money, only to have their bank accounts drained shortly afterward.

Police estimate the gang earned Rs4–5 lakh per day, with the stolen funds being funneled into multiple bank accounts. Authorities are now investigating potential money laundering links. The accused reportedly recruited young men from various states to run the operation from a single rented room.

Those arrested are from Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and Bihar’s Kaimur, Saran, Siwan, Banka, and Rohtas districts. During the raid, police seized 82 ATM cards, nine active bank passbooks, five cheque books, and several mobile devices, raising concerns of identity theft and forged documentation.

A case has been registered under FIR 55/25 at the Cyber Police Station. SP Arya identified Ajit Kumar Jaiswal and Aman Kumar Jaiswal as the masterminds who organized and operated the network.

“This crackdown will play a crucial role in controlling the surge in cyber fraud cases,” SP Arya said, confirming that more arrests are expected as the investigation expands.
