Zvishavane Siblings Jailed for Staging Fake Armed Robbery

A brother and sister duo from Zvishavane, Midlands, have been sentenced to 36 months in prison after orchestrating a fake armed robbery at DA Motors Service Station on February 23, 2025.

Elaborate Heist Unraveled
The mastermind, Biana Madzudzu (26), a supervisor at DA Motors, staged a convincing robbery, pretending to be held at knife-point while secretly handing over US$18,200 in cash and fuel coupons to her brother and accomplice, Givemore Madzudzu (37).

However, their plan fell apart when Biana reported the fake crime to the police. A thorough investigation exposed the deception, leading to the discovery of the stolen loot hidden in the Kandodo and Zuderberg mountains.

Police Recover Cash & Fuel Coupons
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) later confirmed the recovery of US$12,258 in cash, along with fuel coupons and other stolen items.

Court Sentencing & Restitution Conditions
Both Biana and Givemore were sentenced to 36 months in prison. However:

12 months were suspended for good behavior
Another 12 months were suspended if they pay US$3,500 in restitution
Growing Concern Over Staged Crimes
This case raises concerns about internal security risks in workplaces, as staged crimes become more common in Zimbabwe.
