Zuberi Sharp Arrested After Teen’s Death in Ventura County

A bizarre chain of events led to the arrest of 24-year-old Zuberi Sharp, who was taken into custody by police after running naked onto a football field in Newbury Park, California, armed with an ax. The arrest came shortly after a teenager was found severely injured from blunt force trauma to his head on Thursday. The teen later died on his way to the hospital.

Ventura County Sheriff’s officials reported that the incident began when a frantic caller reported that her child had been murdered at their home in Newbury Park. Deputies soon identified a suspect and began pursuing him. Sharp, who was naked and holding an ax, was apprehended on the Newbury Park High School football field. Although Sharp has not officially been named by police, sheriff’s communications and booking records identified him as the suspect.

Details surrounding the motive for the killing and the relationship between Sharp and the victim remain unclear, as does why Sharp was found naked on the football field. The investigation is ongoing.
