Yusuf Kakaire Arrested for Impersonating State House Official

By Kenneth Kazibwe

Police in Kampala have detained a man accused of impersonating a State House official and defrauding the public.

Yusuf Kakaire allegedly presented himself as Major Asiimwe from the president’s office, using this false identity to carry out scams. Luke Owoyesigyire, deputy police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, reported that Kakaire faces multiple charges, including impersonation, possession of suspected stolen property, forgery, and using false documents. The case is registered at Jinja Road Police Station under CRB 970/2024. Kakaire is currently in the process of being arraigned in court.

This incident is part of a broader issue, as numerous individuals have previously been arrested for impersonating State House staff to defraud citizens. These scammers often trick people into paying for assistance in meeting President Museveni or resolving legal cases, only to vanish once they have received the money.

The police continue to warn the public to remain vigilant against such schemes.
