A 33-year-old suspect, Yusuf Idris, was apprehended by the Nasarawa State Police Command for posing as the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Shehu Umar Nadada, and deceiving job seekers into handing over money.
DSP Ramhan Nansel, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, shared the news in a statement on Sunday, November 24, 2024. He revealed that the suspect had defrauded several individuals seeking jobs by promising employment with the Nigeria Police Force and the Nasarawa State Hospital Management Board.
Idris, originally from Obi Local Government Area but residing in the Ombu 1 area of Lafia, had been operating a deceptive scheme. He convinced a victim, Monday Akinde, from Obi Local Government, to pay N300,000 for a supposed job at the Nasarawa State Hospital Management Board. Later, he manipulated Akinde into recruiting another person for a supposed slot in the Nigeria Police, claiming that the Commissioner of Police had given him the opportunity, which he was selling for an additional N500.
To back up his fraudulent claims, Idris took Akinde to the State Police Command Headquarters, where he convinced the victim he was dealing with legitimate officials. However, while the victim waited outside, Idris entered the Command Headquarters and was caught lurking around before being arrested.
A search of the suspect uncovered two fake promotion letters related to Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, which he had obtained from Facebook, along with the sum of N300,000 in cash. These items were seized as evidence.
CP Nadada has urged the public to come forward if they believe they have fallen victim to Idris’ scam. He warned people to be cautious of employment fraud and avoid sharing sensitive personal details on social media platforms.
The CP also issued a stern warning to others involved in such fraudulent activities, urging them to change their ways, as anyone caught will face severe consequences.
