In a dramatic turn of events, the Koyilandy police uncovered a staged robbery orchestrated by a 24-year-old youth, Suhail Sulaiman, and his two accomplices, Mohammed Thaha (27) and Mohammed Yasar (20). The trio had fabricated a robbery story to steal Rs62 lakh, which had been entrusted to Suhail for ATM replenishment in Kozhikode district.
The incident, which initially appeared to be a robbery targeting ATM cash, came to light after a scientific investigation by the police. Suhail, who initially posed as both the complainant and the victim, became the prime suspect as investigators began to scrutinize his dubious account of the events.
According to the police, the stolen money was meant for replenishing ATMs in Kozhikode, but Suhail and his friends fabricated a story that involved a robbery, hoping to cover up their theft. However, the police’s investigation revealed inconsistencies in the story, eventually leading to the arrest of the trio.
The suspects are now facing charges related to theft, conspiracy, and falsifying a robbery report. Investigations suggest that the stolen Rs62 lakh was likely divided between the accused, and the money was planned to be laundered through various means.
The Koyilandy police have seized the stolen money and are continuing their probe into the case to uncover further details about the staged robbery and the suspects’ plans.
