LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Yoni Barrios, 34, has been indicted by a Clark County grand jury on charges, including terrorism and murder, following a deadly stabbing spree on the Las Vegas Strip in October 2022.
On October 6, 2022, Barrios allegedly approached a group of showgirls near the Wynn Las Vegas and asked to take a picture with them while holding a foot-long kitchen knife. He then proceeded to stab several individuals, leaving Brent Hallett, 47, and Maris DiGiovanni, 30, dead, while injuring six others.
Video footage from the scene shows Barrios lunging at the group, including DiGiovanni, and reportedly believing the women were laughing at him. Authorities stated that Barrios identified himself as a chef and became enraged when he thought they were mocking his attire.
Following the attack, Barrios was arrested and entered competency court, where a judge ordered treatment. In December, a grand jury returned an indictment for charges of terrorism and murder. During the hearing, Clark County Chief Deputy District Attorney John Giordani described the attack as an “indiscriminate” stabbing spree.
The case continues as Barrios faces hearings on whether he fully understands the charges against him.
