Yoneta, Tokyo University Employee, Arrested for Filming Underwear on Escalator

Tokyo University Employee Arrested for Voyeurism at Hachioji Station

Yoneta, a 45-year-old employee of Tokyo University, has been arrested on suspicion of filming a woman’s underwear without her knowledge. The incident took place at Minamiosawa Station in Hachioji on the morning of October 23. According to police, Yoneta approached the woman from behind, used his smartphone to film under her skirt on an escalator, and continued to record her for several moments. The victim was unaware at the time.

The arrest follows an investigation in which a photo of the woman was discovered on Yoneta’s smartphone. Police had been examining his device in relation to an unrelated case in Tokyo’s Suginami Ward in late October.

Yoneta, who graduated from Tokyo Metropolitan University, joined the Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau in 2005 before moving to his current position at the university in April of this year. He has reportedly admitted to the allegations during questioning.

Police are continuing to investigate Yoneta’s actions, as additional evidence may emerge. The case has raised concerns about privacy and security, especially in public spaces like train stations.
