Xavier Leron Jett, 26, of Alexandria, Virginia, was arrested following a high-speed chase in Calvert County on January 8, 2025. Jett faces several serious charges, including fraud and auto theft, after deputies spotted him driving a stolen 2022 Cadillac Escalade.
The incident began when the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office was alerted by a License Plate Reader (LPR) system to the stolen vehicle, which had been reported stolen from Hartford County, Maryland. The vehicle was first seen traveling south on Southern Maryland Boulevard.
When deputies attempted to stop the vehicle near the Country Plaza Shopping Center, Jett briefly halted before fleeing, reaching speeds over 120 mph. During the chase, he ran red lights and drove on the shoulder to evade capture. The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed at Town Center Boulevard after running another red light.
Jett exited the vehicle and fled on foot into nearby woods. Despite commands to stop, he continued running, but was eventually located with the assistance of K-9 units and drones. He was apprehended at 9:37 p.m. while carrying a black bag.
Upon searching Jett, deputies discovered fraudulent driver’s licenses with his photograph but different names, including “Marcus Johnson” and “Travis Halston,” as well as counterfeit vehicle identification numbers (VIN) labels and a Chevrolet key fob. The VIN labels are suspected of being intended for use in concealing stolen vehicles.
Jett now faces multiple charges, including unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, which is a felony, possession of fraudulent identification documents, and possession of VIN labels for fraudulent purposes, among others. Additional traffic charges include reckless and negligent driving.
After his arrest, Jett was transported to Calvert Health Medical Center for evaluation before being booked into the Calvert County Detention Center. A bail review hearing held on January 10, 2025, resulted in Judge Michelle R. Saunders ordering Jett to be held without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 19, 2025.
Authorities continue to investigate Jett’s involvement in broader criminal activity and possible connections to auto theft rings. Anyone with further information is encouraged to contact the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office.
