Woman Charged with Murder of 5-Year-Old Lincoln Button

A woman has been charged with the murder of five-year-old Lincoln Button, who tragically died in South Ockendon, Essex, on December 15. Claire Button, aged 35, of Windstar Drive, South Ockendon, was arrested after being taken to the hospital for treatment and has since been charged with murder. She is scheduled to appear before magistrates in Southend on Monday.

Detective Chief Inspector Alan Blakesley, from Essex Police, acknowledged the complexity of the investigation into the child’s death, offering his condolences to the family and emphasizing the effort required to reach this stage in the inquiry. “This continues to prove to be an immensely complex investigation into the death of a young child,” he said. “My thoughts and the thoughts of all the investigative team remain with the family of Lincoln Button as we continue to support them through this awful time.”

Essex Police have urged the public to refrain from speculating about the circumstances of Lincoln’s death.

Bonnygate Primary School, where Lincoln was a Year 1 pupil, expressed its grief and stated that it was working closely with authorities during the investigation. A spokesperson for the school said, “His love for school, laughter, and cuddles will be remembered and missed dearly.” The school also emphasized its commitment to supporting the community as it copes with the loss.

Lincoln’s family described him as a “cherished, loved, sweet, beautiful young soul” who would be deeply missed. “Link was adored by all and will be sorely missed every day,” they said in a statement.
