In a breakthrough, 22-year-old V. Pavithra from Sivakasi has been arrested for stealing a gold necklace worth Rs1.40 lakh from a jewelry shop in Kasukadai Bazaar, Virudhunagar, on Saturday.
According to the police, Pavithra entered the shop wearing a face mask and pretended to be a potential buyer. After browsing some gold chains, she requested to see a gold necklace. As the salesperson, Saranya, showed her the items, Pavithra repeatedly asked to see different varieties of gold chains.
The police are continuing their investigation into the matter and have commended the prompt arrest following a tip-off that led them to the suspect.
