A 29-year-old woman, identified as Dharsana alias Priya, was arrested on Wednesday after she allegedly ordered her pet dog to bite a collection agent from a private finance firm. The incident took place at her residence in Maha Ganapathy Nagar, Vellalore, where the agent had visited to collect overdue payments for a car loan.
The agent, identified as Jagadeesh, suffered multiple bite injuries on his legs and abdomen and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital. The attack occurred when Dharsana, who has a history of previous arrests for cheating, reportedly commanded her dog to attack the agent while he and his colleagues were at the house to discuss the overdue payments.
Police reports indicate that Dharsana, along with her husband Manikandan, had purchased an SUV in 2020 by taking a loan from the finance company. While they had made regular payments initially, they still had 20 outstanding EMI payments on the vehicle. Despite repeated visits by the finance firm’s collection agents, the couple had failed to settle the dues.
On Wednesday, a team comprising of Jagadeesh, his colleague Suresh, and Saravanan, the area manager, visited the couple’s home with the intention of either collecting the overdue payments or seizing the vehicle. However, the situation escalated when Manikandan allegedly attempted to drive the car away. The agents blocked the car’s path and instructed the couple to cooperate with the legal process.
According to police, during this confrontation, Dharsana directed her dog to attack the agents. Following the attack, the woman was arrested and charged with assault and obstructing official duty. Dharsana’s previous criminal record, including two prior arrests for cheating, has added further complications to her case.
She has been remanded to custody, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
