Woman Arrested After Texting Sheriff’s Investigator Instead of Drug Dealer

In Bay County, Florida, Octavia Wells, 41, was arrested after mistakenly texting a narcotics investigator instead of a drug dealer. Wells had sent a text message inquiring about purchasing fentanyl before leaving town, unknowingly texting a sheriff’s department investigator.

The investigator began corresponding with Wells and went undercover, setting up a “sale” of fentanyl. Wells agreed to meet the supposed dealer at a gas station, unaware that she was about to encounter law enforcement.

When Wells arrived, she was arrested and charged with unlawful use of a two-way communication device, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving with a suspended license. Authorities commended the investigator for his quick thinking and the successful undercover operation.
