Woman Arrested After Stealing Van, Crashing into Bicyclist and Motorcyclists in Summerville

Summerville, S.C. – Brittany Lawson, 35, of Summerville, has been arrested following a crash involving a stolen van on Saturday, Nov. 23, that resulted in a bicyclist sustaining severe injuries and two motorcyclists being injured. Lawson faces multiple charges, including grand larceny, two counts of hit and run, hit and run with great bodily injury, and felony DUI, according to the Summerville Police Department.

The incident occurred around 1:25 p.m. when officers responded to reports of a collision on South Pointe Boulevard. Upon arrival, authorities found an unoccupied van in a ditch. Investigators later determined that the van had been stolen earlier that day from a nearby construction site.

Witnesses reported that the driver of the van, later identified as Lawson, fled the scene on foot after the crash. The bicyclist involved in the incident suffered severe injuries and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Both motorcyclists sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Lawson was eventually arrested and taken to the Berkeley County Detention Center, where she awaits a bond hearing.

This incident remains under investigation, and Lawson’s charges reflect the severity of the crash and the injuries caused.
