Sheriff’s Son Arrested for Soliciting a Minor, Assaulting Officer
William Waybourn, the adopted son of Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn, was arrested Monday evening and faces three charges, including two felonies, according to court records.
The 20-year-old was charged with solicitation of prostitution of a minor, assault on a peace officer, and resisting arrest. He was taken to Arlington Jail and later bonded out.
In a statement Tuesday, Sheriff Waybourn expressed disappointment in his son’s actions, describing him as “developmentally challenged.” The statement noted that young adults with such difficulties often struggle within the justice system.
Incident Details
According to Arlington police, officers responded to a 911 call Monday afternoon after an underage girl entered a business on South Bowen Road and reported that a man had made sexually explicit comments while following her.
Officers identified the suspect as William Waybourn. When they attempted to detain him, he allegedly resisted arrest and injured an officer’s arm in the process. The investigation remains ongoing.
Family’s Legal Troubles
This is not the first legal issue for the Waybourn family. Sergei Waybourn, 29, another adopted son of the sheriff, has been arrested 13 times since 2017, facing 18 charges, including indecent exposure (2019) and assault (2021).
Sheriff Bill Waybourn and his wife have 10 children, eight of whom were adopted, according to the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office website.
