Wiley Tanner, a 39-year-old man from Atkinson County, was arrested on October 23, 2024, after he was found in possession of methamphetamine during a traffic stop in Coffee County. The arrest followed a routine patrol by the Coffee County Drug Unit, where a detective noticed Tanner operating a moped without a helmet on Ramblewood Road.
The detective initiated the stop, and upon making contact with Tanner, observed him attempting to discard a yellow plastic wrapper containing approximately two grams of suspected methamphetamine. Tanner allegedly threw the wrapper on the ground in an attempt to hide the drugs.
When questioned by the detective, Tanner reportedly asked, “Why am I going to jail for that small of an amount?” The detective responded by explaining that methamphetamine possession is illegal, regardless of the quantity, and also informed Tanner of an active arrest warrant for him from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office.
Tanner was arrested and booked on a charge of methamphetamine possession. He was later released, pending further legal proceedings.
