UNION COUNTY, S.C. — James Corley Jr., 50, of West Columbia, was arrested on Tuesday after an investigation by the Union County Sheriff’s Office revealed he was linked to a series of unauthorized debits from the Housing Authority of Union’s general fund account.
Between June 4 and June 5, a total of $83,672.50 was taken from the account, with the funds originating from a Truist Bank account and later traced to an Arthur State Bank account in Corley’s name. Deputies worked with Truist Bank and West Columbia Police to gather bank records, leading to Corley’s involvement.
Corley was interviewed by West Columbia Police on July 15, during which he admitted to knowing about the stolen money and revealed he was in contact with a woman online regarding the transactions.
On July 30, Corley was arrested and booked into the Union County Detention Center on charges of financial transaction theft. Further investigation is ongoing.
