Wellington Leonardo Arrested for Fatal Stabbing of Wife in Perth Amboy

PERTH AMBOY, N.J. (WETM) — Wellington Leonardo, of Perth Amboy, was arrested after allegedly stabbing his wife, Rosana Rodriguez, to death while their children were inside the home.

According to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, police responded to reports of a stabbing at a residence on Bertrand Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found both Leonardo and Rodriguez lying on their kitchen floor.

Prosecutors say Rodriguez, 40, had visible signs of a stabbing. She was transported to Hackensack Meridian Hospital Raritan Bay Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead. Leonardo was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for treatment.

Leonardo has been charged with first-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and endangering the welfare of a child since the stabbing occurred in the presence of their children.
