Wednesday Watson Accused of Stealing from Charity in Michigan

Linden woman allegedly charged charity's account with fraud

by Amelia Crawford

A Linden woman, 36-year-old Wednesday Watson, is accused of stealing from a charity that offered to pay utility bills on her behalf. According to the Holly Police Department, Watson contacted the charity twice in 2023, providing false information to receive assistance with her utility payments.

Watson gave the charity a Davisburg address, and the organization issued checks to her utility company, which Watson was supposed to mail as her payment. However, authorities allege that Watson then created fraudulent charges against the charity’s checking account between November 16, 2023, and July 24, 2024. These unauthorized charges totaled several thousand dollars.

In August, police interviewed Watson, recovering evidence of the alleged fraudulent transactions. The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office has filed three felony counts against Watson for stealing or retaining a financial transaction device without consent. If convicted, she could face up to four years in prison.

Watson was arraigned on December 12 in Oakland County District Court and was released on a personal recognizance bond, with a court appearance scheduled for January 7.
