Waukegan Man Jose Tobias Arrested for Antioch Burglaries and Theft

Jose Tobias Arrested for Antioch Subdivision Burglaries

Jose Tobias, a 23-year-old resident of Waukegan, has been arrested for his involvement in a series of burglaries in an Antioch subdivision on December 8. Surveillance footage reportedly captured Tobias using stolen credit cards after breaking into vehicles and home garages in the Red Wing Subdivision.

The Antioch Police Department, working in collaboration with the Waukegan Police Department, launched a thorough investigation that led to Tobias’ identification. After the burglaries, the stolen credit cards were used in the Lake County area, and the surveillance video matched the footage from the crime scene.

As a result, Tobias was charged with residential burglary, identity theft, and unlawful use of a credit card. Arrest warrants were issued, and Tobias was taken into custody by Waukegan police officers on Tuesday. He made his first appearance in court on Wednesday morning.

Antioch Police Chief Guttschow reminded residents of the importance of taking preventative measures to secure their property, especially during the holiday season. “Simple steps like locking doors and securing valuables can make a significant difference in protecting your property,” Guttschow said. “We rely on the partnership of our community to help deter crime and keep Antioch safe.”

The Antioch Police Department expressed gratitude to the Waukegan Police Department for their collaboration in solving the case.

Tobias remains in custody at the Lake County Jail, where a petition has been filed to detain him pending trial. A detention hearing is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
