Catarino Dario Borjas-Moreno III, a resident of Wauchula, was arrested by the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office in Sebring on Wednesday night. He was booked into jail early Thursday morning and is currently being held without bond.
Borjas-Moreno is facing a series of serious charges, including possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, manufacture, or deliver; drug trafficking in fentanyl (four grams or more); methamphetamine trafficking (28-200 grams); possession of drug equipment; operating a structure or vehicle known for drug trafficking; and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.
The arrest occurred during a traffic stop on U.S. 27 at Flare Road in Sebring. Deputies stopped a Chevrolet Silverado and identified Borjas-Moreno as the passenger. A K-9 unit alerted authorities to the potential presence of narcotics inside the vehicle.
Upon searching the truck, deputies found two bags containing a significant amount of crystal-like substances in an upper glove compartment. Field testing confirmed the presence of 108.6 grams of methamphetamine and fentanyl. During the search, deputies also discovered $318 in small bills, which is typically associated with narcotic sales.
Further investigation revealed smoking pipes in another glove compartment, which the driver said Borjas-Moreno had placed there. The driver also indicated that Borjas-Moreno paid him $40 to drive him to Carver Hills.
Borjas-Moreno has been charged with multiple drug-related offenses and remains in custody as legal proceedings continue. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
