Waterloo Councilor Nia Wilder Arrested on 4th Degree Theft Charge

Waterloo City Council’s Ward 3 representative, Nia Wilder, was arrested this weekend in Des Moines on a 4th degree theft charge. Wilder, who was elected to the council in 2022, was booked into the Polk County Jail on Friday, facing a serious misdemeanor charge.

According to the criminal complaint, Wilder allegedly erased over $420 from her Walmart app before attempting to leave the store with the stolen merchandise. She was stopped by Walmart’s Loss Prevention Services, and police say Wilder admitted to the theft after being read her rights.

Wilder has since been released from the Polk County Jail. KWWL reached out to the City of Waterloo for a comment regarding the arrest, but has not received a response yet.
