Warrant Issued for Calton Mudiwiwa Over R440,000 Fraud

A Harare Magistrate, Stanley Mambanje, issued an arrest warrant for Calton Mudiwiwa on Thursday after the accused disappeared on the day his court verdict was due to be heard.

Mudiwiwa stands accused of defrauding a South Africa-based company, Davure Mining, of R440,000 in a failed vehicle supply deal. The case was reported by Masimba Mukarati, the manager of Davure Mining, which operates across both South Africa and Zimbabwe, focusing on mining, cattle ranching, and agriculture.

The alleged fraud occurred on October 20, 2021, when Mukarati sought Mudiwiwa’s help to purchase a Toyota Hilux Legend 50 double-cab vehicle from South Africa. Mudiwiwa promised to assist with importing the vehicle, and Mukarati, acting on his instructions, paid the required amount to Wish Worthy Investments, which was allegedly Mudiwiwa’s designated company.

After making the payment, Mukarati provided proof of payment to Mudiwiwa, but Mudiwiwa failed to deliver the vehicle. He reportedly began making false promises and became increasingly evasive when questioned about the matter.

Mukarati subsequently reported the situation to the police, which led to Mudiwiwa’s arrest. However, Mudiwiwa went into hiding before his verdict was due, prompting the issuance of the warrant for his arrest.

The case remains under investigation as authorities work to locate Mudiwiwa.
