FREEHOLD, NJ – A Wall Township man has been arrested and charged in connection with an armed robbery at a local Bank of America, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Thursday.
Jeffrey L. Kniffin, 50, faces multiple charges, including first-degree Armed Robbery, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and fourth-degree Possession of Hollow Point Bullets.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, around 3:24 p.m. Officers from the Wall Township Police Department responded to a report of a robbery at the Bank of America branch on State Highway 35. Upon arrival, they learned that a man wearing a mask, glasses, a ball cap, a black hoodie, and gloves had brandished a firearm and stolen over $5,000 before fleeing the scene.
An off-duty Wall Township police officer, who was in the area at the time of the robbery, spotted a man matching the suspect’s description riding a bicycle. The officer followed the suspect, later identified as Kniffin, to his residence on M Street, where he was apprehended.
Kniffin has been transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution (MCCI) and is currently being held pending his first appearance in Monmouth County Superior Court.
The case has been assigned to Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Michael Luciano of the Major Crimes Bureau. Information regarding Kniffin’s legal representation was not immediately available.
As a reminder, every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
