Virendrasinh Padhiyar Arrested in MICA Student Murder Case Remanded for 10 Days

The police constable arrested in the MICA student murder case, Virendrasinh Padhiyar, is reportedly not cooperating with investigators, as he is well-acquainted with police procedures, sources say. Padhiyar, who was apprehended in Punjab and brought to Ahmedabad for questioning, was presented before a local court, where the police requested a 14-day remand for further investigation.

Padhiyar, a 15-year veteran in the police force, is said to be resistant to providing key information needed by the authorities. According to the prosecution, his experience in law enforcement has made him less forthcoming during interrogation, complicating the investigation.

During the court proceedings, the prosecution emphasized the importance of custodial interrogation to uncover critical details about the crime. Authorities need to confirm several aspects of the case, such as the weapon used in the murder, as well as to recover the clothing worn by Padhiyar during the attack.

Investigators are also probing Padhiyar’s movements after the crime, particularly his time spent in Punjab. They are working to determine whether he traveled alone or had accomplices during the crime. There are conflicting statements regarding the weapon used—while Padhiyar maintains that he used only one knife, the victim’s friend claims two knives were involved in the attack.

Furthermore, the police are seeking information on whether anyone else knew about the crime or was involved in its planning. Authorities are also analyzing CCTV footage along the route Padhiyar allegedly took from Ahmedabad to Punjab to track his movements and verify his whereabouts.

Given these crucial unanswered questions, the prosecution argued for a 14-day remand to facilitate thorough investigation. However, the court granted Padhiyar a 10-day remand, acknowledging the need for continued questioning and investigation.

Authorities remain hopeful that further interrogation will shed light on the details of the crime and Padhiyar’s role in it.
