Vicksburg, MS (February 9, 2025) — Omarion Richardson, a booking officer with the Vicksburg Police Department, has been arrested on felony charges for theft from a vehicle and possession of stolen property. The arrest was made this week in connection to a theft that took place on January 29, 2025.
Richardson, who had been with the Vicksburg Police Department for nearly a year and has a military background, was arraigned in Justice Court on Thursday. He faces charges of felony theft from a vehicle and being in possession of a stolen handgun.
Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones addressed the arrest, stating, “The VPD does a thorough background check and there was no reason to not hire this candidate. We are saddened by this event but will ensure he is held to the same standards as all citizens and given a fair and impartial trial.”
As a result of the arrest, Richardson has been suspended from the department pending a hearing with the Mayor and Board of Aldermen, scheduled for Monday, February 10, 2025.
Additionally, another individual, Javion Walker, was arrested in connection with the theft case. The Vicksburg Daily News will provide updates as more information becomes available.
