JACKSON, Miss. – A Vicksburg man, Marquette Cornell McCroy, 43, was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison for possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.
Court documents reveal that McCroy was found in possession of a firearm after a traffic stop in Vicksburg. During the stop, McCroy initially fled the scene in his vehicle and then on foot. As he attempted to escape, McCroy discarded the firearm. He was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. Since McCroy had a prior felony conviction, he was prohibited from possessing firearms.
McCroy was indicted by a federal grand jury and pled guilty on October 3, 2024.
The investigation was carried out by the Vicksburg Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Bert Carraway.
This case is part of the ongoing Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement and the community. The PSN strategy emphasizes trust-building, community-based violence prevention, focused enforcement efforts, and measurable results.
