Vellore Hotel Owner’s 40 Sovereigns Stolen; Seven Arrested in Burglary Case

In a recent burglary case in Mettukulam, near Katpadi, a 55-year-old hotel owner, Raja, became the victim of a significant theft. Thieves broke into his home and stole 40 sovereigns of gold jewelry. However, thanks to the tireless work of the Vellore police, seven men were arrested in connection with the crime, and 33 sovereigns of gold and 700 grams of silver were recovered.

Raja, who runs a hotel on Siddhar Pradhana Salai, had traveled to Chennai with his family on Tuesday to attend a function at a relative’s house. Upon their return later that night, they were shocked to find that the back door had been forced open, and valuable jewelry was missing from a bureau.

After filing a complaint at the Katpadi police station, forensic experts collected fingerprints from the scene. The police formed a special team to investigate the case. Vellore SP Mathivanan stated, “We launched a multi-pronged investigation, including scanning over 50 CCTV footages.”

The police first arrested Venkatesh (36) from Tiruvannamalai. During further interrogations, the authorities identified six additional accomplices: Saravanan (24) from Karumandurai, Bharathi (34) from Arani, Thiagarajan (35) from Senpakkam, Sathish (30) and Gopi (39) from Keelandur, and Pushparaj (27) from Salem.

Interestingly, the accused were regular customers at Raja’s hotel. They were aware that the family would be away and initially attempted to commit the theft. After failing the first time, they purchased tools to break open the door and successfully executed the robbery.

The police, including DSPs Thirunavukkarasu and Palani, and Sub-Inspector Manikandan, worked around the clock to apprehend the culprits within six days. Most of the stolen jewelry was recovered from the suspects. Further investigations are ongoing to uncover more details related to the case.
