Vasile Gorghescu Jailed for Life After Murdering Chaudhary Mahmood

Vasile Gorghescu, 42, of Rayner Gardens, Southampton, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Chaudhary Mahmood, a shopping centre worker who was found with 27 stab wounds in a vehicle in the car park. The crime occurred after Gorghescu’s attempt to scam Mahmood was uncovered.

Gorghescu, armed with a weapon, went to meet Mahmood with the clear intention of resorting to violence if his fraudulent plan was exposed. The attack left Mahmood fatally injured.

On December 3, Snaresbrook Crown Court sentenced Gorghescu to a minimum of 31 years and 39 days behind bars. Detective Chief Inspector Yorke stated that Gorghescu had driven to the meeting fully prepared for violence if his scam was revealed.
