Vasco Police Arrest 24-Year-Old for Ganja Possession, Seize Rs 1 Lakh Worth of Narcotics

In a significant crackdown on drug-related activities, Vasco Police arrested a 24-year-old man for the illegal possession of narcotics on Sunday morning near Joggers Park in Chicalim. The accused, Khajappa Gaikwad, a resident of Vaddem, Vasco, was apprehended during a routine police patrol that took place between 6:15 a.m. and 9:15 a.m.

Upon searching Gaikwad, police discovered 1.02 kg of dry, greenish substances with stems, flowers, and fruits, suspected to be ganja. The confiscated narcotics, estimated to be worth around Rs 1,00,000, were seized as evidence.

The arrest was carried out by PSI Prisly Carvalho, following all Supreme Court guidelines. Gaikwad was formally taken into custody at 10:50 a.m. and charged under Section 20(A)(ii)(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

The ongoing investigation, supervised by PI Kapil Nayak and directed by Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam, is focused on identifying the source of the narcotics and uncovering potential links to larger drug distribution networks.

Vasco Police are urging the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their localities as part of their continued efforts to combat drug-related issues in the region.
