Valley Mills Police Chief and Officer Arrested for Credit Card Fraud

Valley Mills, TX – Valley Mills Police Chief Matthew Cantrell and Officer Solomon Omotoya were arrested on February 10, 2025, following an investigation into suspicious fuel purchases made with the city’s credit card. The investigation began in mid-January when a Valley Mills City Council member reported questionable charges related to the police department’s fuel card.

Investigators discovered that Cantrell and Omotoya had used the city’s credit card to purchase fuel for their personal vehicles while off duty, violating the city’s policy. Video footage confirmed the pair making the unauthorized transactions at multiple gas stations across Johnson County.

Both officials were charged with abuse of official capacity, a serious offense. Officer Omotoya was arrested on duty, while Cantrell was taken into custody at his home in Johnson County.

The Texas Rangers and the FBI are involved in the ongoing investigation, though details regarding the amount of money spent or the frequency of the fraudulent charges have not been disclosed.
