Utica Man Charged in Shots-Fired Incident on Genesee Street

A Utica man is facing weapons charges following a shots-fired incident late Monday night on Genesee Street.

Police responded to the 1400 block of Genesee Street at around 9 p.m. on Monday, September 23, after reports of gunfire. While en route, officers were informed that one of the bullets had traveled through a wall and entered a nearby apartment. Thankfully, no one was injured, though damage to the apartment’s wall was noted, and a bullet was discovered inside.

Upon arrival, officers began speaking with residents of both apartments. A K9 unit was brought to the scene and successfully located a long gun and a safe containing a handgun in the area believed to be the origin of the shots.

Further investigation led to the identification and arrest of 29-year-old Davante Greer of Utica. Greer was taken into custody and charged with:

  • Criminal Possession of a Firearm, a Class E Felony, and
  • Third-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, a Class D Violent Felony.

Greer was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for harassment. Utica Police have indicated that the investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed against Greer.
