Utah Man Faces Fourth Murder Charge After Body Found Near Tooele County Trail

TOOELE, Utah – Cesar Matias Sevilla-Aleman, 27, also known as “Taliban,” is facing a fourth murder charge after the remains of Jose “Angel” Castaneda-Lopez were discovered near a Tooele County trailhead. This discovery came nearly a year after the remains of three other victims were found in the same area, all believed to have been murdered by Sevilla-Aleman.

Sevilla-Aleman was already under investigation for the 2022 murders of Carlos Sepulveda, Zamir Sanchez, and Rocio Bustamante-Banuelos when the new body was found in 2024. Authorities confirmed that the same weapon was used in all four killings.

The investigation into the earlier murders began when the victims’ families reported them missing. Friends and witnesses stated that all three victims owed Sevilla-Aleman money. Investigators later determined that Sevilla-Aleman and his accomplices lured the victims to a remote location, where they were shot and killed.

In April 2023, Rocky Mountain Cadaver Search and Rescue crews, while training near Mercur Trail, discovered the remains of the three victims. Two days later, authorities exhumed the bodies and found bullet casings and other evidence linking the murders to Sevilla-Aleman.

Almost a year later, in April 2024, Utah County Sheriff Detective Hall found a rib bone at the same Mercur Trailhead location. Further digging revealed more skeletal remains, including a human jaw with teeth still attached. Authorities also found two bullet casings and Castaneda-Lopez’s passport, suggesting he had been involved in a financial dispute with Sevilla-Aleman before his death.

Sevilla-Aleman is now facing multiple kidnapping and murder charges, making this his fourth murder accusation in just over two years. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the case, with more updates expected as the investigation progresses.
