Used Car Salesman Olin Altman Arrested for Defrauding Customers

FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF/Gray News) – A 42-year-old used car salesman from South Carolina has been arrested for defrauding customers at his dealership.

On Monday, Olin Altman was arrested by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) on charges of obtaining goods under false pretenses. Altman, who operated the Lowcountry Truck & Auto dealership, allegedly took over $10,000 in payments from multiple customers between March 16 and June 12, 2024. However, he failed to provide the required car titles and did not pay off the vehicle lienholders as promised.

According to the arrest report, Altman intentionally defrauded the customers by withholding their car titles beyond the 45-day deadline. He was booked into the Florence County Detention Center and later released on a $25,000 bond.

Altman’s case will be prosecuted by the 12th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
