UPND Member Kelvin Sampa Arrested for Fraud and Forgery

ZAMBIA – Police have formally arrested Kelvin Mutale Sampa, a member of the United Party for National Development (UPND), on multiple charges, including obtaining money by false pretences, possession of counterfeit notes, and possession of paper intended for forgery.

Sampa is accused of defrauding Satoshi Sakamoto, a Japanese national, out of US$80,000 in a failed gold transaction. According to a statement from Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga, Sampa’s case is set to be brought before the courts shortly.

“The Zambia Police Service would like to inform the public of the formal arrest of Mr. Kelvin Mutale Sampa in connection with various offences, including obtaining money by false pretences, possession of counterfeit notes, and possession of paper or implements intended for forgery,” Hamoonga stated.

The police confirmed that these offences contravene Sections 309, 370(c), and 351 of the Zambian Penal Code. Further details regarding the case are expected to emerge as investigations continue.
