University Student Arrested for Deceiving Cancer Charity

By Adie Zulkifli

A university student in Malaysia was arrested today for allegedly deceiving Cancer Survivors Malaysia (CSM) into raising donations intended for his tuition fees. Kubang Pasu police chief Superintendent Rodzi Abu Hassan confirmed the arrest occurred at the student’s home around 3 PM.

The case, classified under Section 420 of the Penal Code, follows a police report filed by CSM chairman Zurani Kamal. She claimed that the student misled CSM by portraying his family as financially struggling and in need of assistance for his tuition fees.

Identifying himself as Lim, the student contacted Zuraini last Sunday, asking for help to raise RM5,000 to avoid expulsion from a public university. Moved by his situation, she shared his story on her Facebook page, including his bank account details. Within hours, they raised RM1,176, only to later discover from an NGO in Penang that he had collected over RM30,000, which he allegedly used for online gambling.
