UHSR Employees Arrested in MBBS Exam Scam at Rohtak

In connection with the ongoing investigation into the MBBS exam scam at Pt BD Sharma University of Health Sciences Rohtak (UHSR), district police have arrested three university employees—Roshan Lal, Rohit, and Deepak.

Following an internal investigation into the malpractice, Roshan Lal and Rohit, both regular employees of UHSR, were suspended, while Deepak, an outsourced staff member, was terminated from his position on January 12. A preliminary inquiry into the scandal had revealed involvement of several staff members in the illegal activity.

The police, led by DSP Dalip Singh, confirmed the arrests: “We have arrested three accused in this case. Roshan Lal, a prime suspect, has been remanded for interrogation. Rohit and Deepak have been sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is ongoing, and we will also interrogate other suspects.”

The MBBS exam scam involved students rewriting their answer sheets for both annual and supplementary exams outside the university campus. A key piece of evidence, submitted by an MBBS student from a private college, exposed the malpractice in a video. The footage showed students, under the supervision of a UHSR employee, rewriting their answers using erasable ink pens. They then used hair dryers to erase the original answers before copying answers from textbooks.

An FIR has been filed at the PGIMS police station, naming 41 individuals, including 24 MBBS students from a private college and 17 UHSR staff members. The charges include criminal breach of trust by public servants, cheating, forgery, using forged documents, and criminal conspiracy.

The police action follows recommendations by UHSR authorities based on a report from a three-member fact-finding committee, led by Dr. MK Garg, Director of Kalpana Chawla Government College, Karnal. The report, which examined 228 answer sheets, confirmed the existence of malpractice during the exams.

In addition, the police had earlier sought permission from UHSR to prosecute the involved employees, which was granted. During the interrogation of Roshan Lal, significant details emerged, further aiding the ongoing investigation.
