Udupi Cyber Crime Police Arrest Kiran for Digitally Arresting Victim, Forcing Rs89 Lakh Transfer

In a breakthrough in a digital extortion case, the Udupi Cyber Economic and Narcotic Crime (CEN) police have arrested Kiran (24), a resident of Shahpur, Yadgir district, in connection with an incident where a local resident was digitally arrested and forced to transfer Rs89 lakh. The arrest took place in Dharwad, and the police recovered Rs5 lakh and a mobile phone from the accused.

The victim, Kinnar Santosh Kumar, a resident of Udupi, had been manipulated into transferring the significant sum under the threat of a digital arrest. Police investigations revealed that Kiran had transferred Rs2 lakh to C.K. Mohammed Nisham, as part of the extortion scheme.

A portion of the stolen funds, amounting to Rs2 lakh, was recovered by the police, highlighting the successful steps taken in tracking the suspect. Authorities are continuing their investigation into this cybercrime case, focusing on uncovering the full extent of the extortion operation.
