Texas, USA – Cameron John Wagenius, a U.S. Army soldier, was arrested after being indicted on two counts of unlawful transfer of confidential phone records information. Wagenius, aged 20, is suspected of being linked to the cybercriminal group Kiberphant0m, who claimed to have breached multiple telecommunications firms, including AT&T and Verizon, according to KrebsOnSecurity.
Wagenius is believed to be an associate of Connor Riley Moucka, one of the individuals accused of hacking multiple organizations’ cloud storage systems and extorting victims for millions. The indictment does not specify the victims or hacking activities involved, but it is believed that Wagenius played a role in illegally selling and transferring confidential phone records data.
In an incident from November 6, shortly after Moucka’s arrest, the hacker, under the alias Kiberphant0m, claimed to have stolen sensitive phone logs from AT&T for President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. The hacker threatened to release the logs unless specific demands were met.
Wagenius allegedly sold and transferred confidential information without the customers’ consent. He appeared in court on December 20, and federal prosecutors have requested his extradition to Washington state.
Wagenius’ arrest brings the total number of suspects tied to the Snowflake cloud storage hack to three, alongside Moucka and John Erin Binns.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the connection between these hackers and other high-profile cybercrime operations, including the 2023 Las Vegas casino digital heists.
