Tyrese Osei-Kofi, 24, has pleaded guilty to the murder of Jamel Boyce, whose death followed a stabbing in Clapham, South London, over five years ago. Boyce, who was just 17 at the time of the attack in October 2016, was left blind, paralyzed, and unable to speak after being stabbed by Osei-Kofi.
The violent incident began after an argument between the two at a fast food restaurant on Clapham High Street. Witnesses reported seeing Boyce pinned against a wall by Osei-Kofi while others looked on. Osei-Kofi then trapped Boyce by his neck before stabbing him and fleeing the scene.
Boyce went into cardiac arrest after the attack, and the lack of oxygen caused significant brain damage. Despite paramedics’ efforts, he was left in a comatose state and required long-term care. Boyce survived in this condition until 2022, when he passed away from his injuries.
Osei-Kofi, who initially fled the scene, turned himself in six days later after his father recognized him from media appeals. He was previously convicted in 2018 of wounding with intent and sentenced to 10 years in prison. Following Boyce’s death, the case was reopened, and Osei-Kofi was charged with murder.
The sentencing is now adjourned pending reports.
