Tyree Eugene McCombs, 29, of Washington, D.C., was sentenced to 19 years in federal prison on Tuesday for his involvement in two violent kidnapping and robbery incidents that took place in 2022. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, McCombs was the leader of the schemes, personally targeting victims, assaulting them, and demanding ransoms.
The First Incident:
The first kidnapping took place on September 3, 2022, when McCombs used a GPS tracker to follow a couple from Maryland to their home in Alexandria, Virginia. Armed and masked, McCombs and his co-conspirators ambushed the couple in a parking garage, stealing luxury watches and jewelry worth nearly $200,000.
The Second Incident:
On November 7, 2022, McCombs, who was on supervised release for a 2019 attempted robbery, stalked a 25-year-old woman in Maryland for hours. McCombs and his co-conspirator then abducted her at gunpoint, pistol-whipped her, and bound her with zip ties, holding her captive for nearly three hours while demanding ransom. Surveillance footage captured McCombs and his co-conspirator at a gas station where the victim was sexually assaulted.
The Victim’s Escape:
The victim, fearing for her life, managed to escape by forcing open the car door and running away. McCombs and his accomplice fired at least five shots, striking the victim twice in the foot as she fled. Despite being injured, she survived and was able to escape.
McCombs’ Arrest:
Law enforcement tracked McCombs using his GPS monitor, and he was arrested hours later. McCombs’ sentence reflects the serious nature of his crimes, and this case demonstrates the authorities’ commitment to holding criminals accountable for their actions.
This sentencing serves as a reminder of the devastation caused by violent crimes such as kidnapping and robbery, and it highlights the determination of law enforcement to ensure justice is served. McCombs will serve 19 years in federal prison for his role in these violent acts.
