Tyree Duprei Scott and Leroy Alonzo Owens Arrested in Drug Bust

Traffic Stop Leads to Narcotics Arrests in Prince Frederick, Md.

by Sophia Bennett

A routine traffic stop in Prince Frederick, Md., turned into a narcotics investigation, leading to the arrests of Tyree Duprei Scott, 31, and Leroy Alonzo Owens, 52, both of Prince Frederick. The arrest took place after the two men were seen leaving a location known for drug-related activity and driving erratically near Main Street and Wilson Court.

According to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, deputies observed a gray Hyundai Sonata leaving 450 Tubman Drive, a known hotspot for drug activity. When officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, Owens, the driver, abruptly swerved into the roadway, nearly causing an accident, leading deputies to suspect that the pair was transporting contraband.

Upon stopping the vehicle, deputies reported nervous behavior from both Owens and Scott, who also failed to produce valid driver’s licenses or vehicle registration. Owens initially claimed he had come from Adelina Road, but this contradicted officers’ observations of him leaving Tubman Drive. Both men showed signs of evasive behavior, which led officers to call for a K9 unit to inspect the vehicle.

The K9 unit signaled the presence of narcotics, prompting a search of the vehicle, during which officers discovered a torn plastic baggie containing white powdery residue, along with a metal rod and a red straw, both suspected to be related to drug use. Further inspection of Scott’s person revealed a small copper wire, typically associated with crack cocaine use.

As a result, both Scott and Owens were arrested. Scott was charged with multiple counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance and drug paraphernalia, while Owens faced a single misdemeanor charge for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both men were taken to the Calvert County Detention Center and released on their own recognizance. Court records show that their trials are scheduled for May 5, 2025, in Calvert District Court.
