Tyler Kingsley Arrested in Connection with Killing of 13-Year-Old Johvan Taylor Jr.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Authorities have made an arrest in the tragic shooting death of a South Florida middle school student earlier this month.

Tyler Kingsley, 23, of Pembroke Pines, appeared in bond court on Wednesday morning facing second-degree murder charges. His arrest is linked to the death of 13-year-old Johvan Taylor Jr., who was fatally shot on January 4 in Florida City. Police reports indicate that Taylor was standing outside with friends near Northwest 13th Street and Sixth Avenue when an unknown assailant approached and opened fire.

Taylor was airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Another teenager was also injured in the shooting.

Kingsley was arrested on Tuesday and initially taken to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail before being transferred to Miami-Dade’s Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. The specifics of his arrest remain sealed as the investigation continues.
