Memphis, TN – Tydequan Tutwiler, 19, was arrested Tuesday on 15 charges after Memphis Police Department (MPD) detectives spotted him driving a stolen vehicle. The vehicle, a black Infiniti Q60, was reported stolen from Elijah Lee on March 16, with a value of $27,000.
MPD’s Auto Theft Task Force detectives identified the vehicle as one linked to a theft case. They followed Tutwiler as he drove the car to a Circle K located at 2950 Kirby Road. When officers approached, both Tutwiler and his passenger, a 17-year-old juvenile, fled on foot despite being ordered to stop. After a short foot pursuit, both were apprehended.
Further investigation confirmed that the car was the stolen Infiniti, and detectives found additional items inside, including two handguns, marijuana, two window punch devices, and a vehicle programmer.
Tutwiler has been charged with theft of property (valued between $10,000 and $60,000), two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, evading arrest, felony vandalism, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, and multiple other charges. He is currently being held on a $5,000 bond.
Tutwiler also has two open cases from late last year involving stolen automobiles and drug-related offenses. He had been released on his own recognizance in September in one of those cases.
