Two Women Arrested for Petty Theft at Rancho Cucamonga Home Depot

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. – Two women were arrested for allegedly stealing items from a Home Depot store in Rancho Cucamonga on January 4, 2025. The arrests were made under the newly implemented Proposition 36, a law aimed at reducing homelessness, drug addiction, and theft-related offenses in California.

At approximately 5:15 p.m., Rancho Cucamonga Police Department deputies responded to a theft report at the Home Depot store located at 11884 Foothill Blvd. Deputies detained Claudia Renteria, 54, and Sonia Ochoa Ramirez, 43, both residents of San Bernardino, after they allegedly loaded a shopping cart with several cans of lacquer and other home improvement items before leaving the store without paying.

Both women, who have multiple prior theft convictions, were arrested and booked at the West Valley Detention Center on charges of petty theft with two prior theft convictions under Penal Code 666.1.

Proposition 36, passed by California voters in November 2024, went into effect on December 18, 2024. The proposition reforms laws from Proposition 47 and introduces enhanced sentencing for repeat offenders, such as Renteria and Ramirez, who now face more severe penalties for their theft charges.

Authorities are encouraging anyone with additional information about the incident to contact the Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff’s Station at (909) 477-2800. Anonymous tips can be submitted through the We-Tip Hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME (27463) or online at www.wetip.com.
