In a significant breakthrough in the Uchouri double murder case, Khanpur and Saidpur police, along with the SWAT/Surveillance team of Ghazipur district, arrested two suspects after a police encounter on Friday night. Both suspects were injured during the operation, and authorities recovered two country-made pistols of .315 bore, along with two live cartridges and two used cartridges from their possession.
The operation was part of a broader campaign against crime and criminals in the district. The police were conducting routine checks on suspicious individuals and vehicles when they received a tip-off that the suspects involved in the double murder were headed towards Rampur crossing.
Khanpur police swiftly set up a checkpoint at Rampur crossing. As three individuals on a motorcycle approached from Anauni, they were signaled to stop. Instead of complying, the suspects attempted to run over the police officers and fled towards Saidpur. The Khanpur police immediately alerted the Saidpur station, and a joint effort ensued to intercept the suspects as they moved towards Audihar.
The suspects, realizing they were being cornered, turned towards Sidhauna and continued to flee. Near Patna village, the suspects fired two rounds from a country-made pistol at the police, who returned fire, hitting two of the suspects in the left leg. The injured suspects were sent to CHC Saidpur for initial treatment, while one suspect managed to escape on the motorcycle.
During the interrogation, the arrested suspects identified themselves as Ankit Sonkar and Meraj, both residents of the Khanpur area. The third suspect managed to evade capture, and the police are continuing their search for him.
