Two men were arrested in connection with a dramatic robbery at a Tanishq jewellery store in Bihar’s Ara city on Monday morning. The suspects, Vishal Gupta and Kunal Kumar, were part of a gang that stole Rs25 crore worth of gold and silver. Their arrest followed a high-speed police chase that ended with the recovery of the stolen goods.
The criminals, posing as customers, overpowered the security guard and assaulted two store staff members before raiding the Tanishq showroom in Gopali Chowk. Only one of the six thieves wore a mask, allowing the police to easily identify them through CCTV footage.
Around 10:30 a.m., two of the men entered the store, followed by the rest of the gang. After overpowering the guard and seizing his gun, they threatened the staff with pistols and began looting the jewellery. CCTV footage captured them filling bags with gold and silver while the employees were forced into a corner.
An employee attempted to contact the police, but help did not arrive immediately. Police quickly launched an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage from across the city. They located the suspects speeding toward Doriganj on motorcycles. When instructed to stop, the criminals tried to ram the police vehicle, and a high-speed chase ensued. During the pursuit, one of the suspects fired at the police, but officers returned fire and eventually apprehended the culprits.
The police recovered two pistols, 10 cartridges, and most of the stolen jewellery, along with one of the motorcycles used in the heist. Vishal Gupta, from Dighwara in Saran district, and Kunal Kumar, from Semra in Sonepur, were arrested, while a manhunt continues for the remaining members of the gang.
