Red Bluff, Calif. — Two men were sentenced for firearm and drug offenses after a traffic stop in Red Bluff earlier this year. Santiago Carrillo, 20, and Luis Maldonado, 18, were sentenced on March 4 for charges related to the January 3rd arrest.
According to the Tehama County District Attorney’s Office, Carrillo was found guilty of possessing a controlled substance while armed, while Maldonado was convicted for carrying a concealed firearm within a vehicle. Both men were sentenced to two years of formal probation, 180 days in county jail, and 80 hours of community service.
The incident unfolded around 11:16 p.m. on January 3 when a Red Bluff Police officer pulled over a 2022 Dodge Charger for a vehicle code violation. Carrillo, the front passenger, was known to officers as someone who may be carrying weapons. When asked to exit the vehicle for safety, police found a loaded Ruger pistol in Carrillo’s waistband, along with cocaine.
Maldonado, the rear passenger, was also asked to exit the car and was searched. Police discovered a stolen and loaded Glock 40 caliber pistol on his person. Both Carrillo and Maldonado were arrested and booked into Tehama County Jail.
The case highlights the significant efforts of local law enforcement in addressing firearms and drug-related offenses.
