Two former employees of Senco Gold Limited were arrested for allegedly stealing Rs40 lakh worth of jewellery by generating fake invoices four years ago.
In a major breakthrough, two former employees of Senco Gold Limited in Dwarka were arrested for stealing ₹40 lakh worth of jewellery in 2020. The accused, Yogesh Singh, an ex-assistant store manager, and Deepak, a former cashier, were apprehended after a four-year-long investigation.
According to DCP (Dwarka) Ankit Singh, the theft occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic in June 2020 when both employees faced mounting debts and financial difficulties. The duo hatched a plan to steal from the jewellery store and generated fake invoices in the name of registered customers. This allowed them to steal jewellery worth ₹40 lakh without raising immediate suspicion.
The fraud was uncovered only after a thorough internal audit, which flagged the irregularities in the invoices. Police investigations revealed that Singh and Deepak had been planning the theft for some time, taking advantage of the financial strain during the pandemic to execute their crime.
The accused have now been arrested, and the police are working on recovering the stolen jewellery. Investigations are ongoing to determine if any other employees or external accomplices were involved in the theft
