In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Badliyas police in Bhilwara district arrested two drug smugglers late Thursday night after seizing 203 kilograms of marijuana worth approximately Rs1 crore. The marijuana was being transported from Visakhapatnam in a Swift car, which was stopped during a blockade operation on the Bhilwara-Kota National Highway.
According to Bhilwara SP Dharmendra Singh, the police are currently running a special anti-drug campaign throughout the district. Station officers have been instructed to take strict action, with a special team set up under Mandalgarh Deputy Babulal to focus on drug-related offenses.
The operation began after Badliyas Station In-charge Siddharth Prajapat received a tip-off regarding marijuana smuggling. A blockade was set up at the Sawai Pur police post, where a Swift car was spotted. When police approached, one of the passengers in the back seat fled the scene.
The arrested smugglers were identified as Praveen Kumar (22), from Kapasan in Chittorgarh, and Hiralal (22), from Bagoda in Jalore. During the search of the car, police discovered 95 plastic packets containing marijuana leaves and stalks. When questioned, the smugglers could not provide any documentation or valid permits for transporting the marijuana.
The marijuana, totaling 203 kilograms, was seized along with the vehicle, and both Praveen Kumar and Hiralal were arrested under the NDPS Act. The police estimate the value of the seized drugs to be ₹1 crore in the international market. Investigations are underway to identify their intended supply destination.
